He looked peaceful in a slightly menacing way. He was pure red against a cloudless (read boring) blue sky. Something had to be done. So I overlaid a scan of antique paper. The red brush stroke tied it together. Now I’m happy.
The ship is pulling out of the harbor in Vancouver, BC. The passengers come out on the various decks and balconies to witness their departure. They form lines, groups, and patterns that weave the fabric of a small city in sort of a cross section. In like that, but I really want to know their stories.
The light, shadows and repeating forms in this image of a Gastown building with a humorously defective sign seemed pleasing to my eye. Rendering the image in black and white simplified those elements and gave them the emphasis they deserved. The sign made me smile all day.
